📷 Hiking up hills and mountains (especially while trying to keep up with Mike's family) is made all the more cumbersome while carrying a heavy DSLR bag. I often wonder why I'm carrying all that equipment around with me - especially while stumbling over roots in a forest or getting my boot stuck in a bog. But then I come out into a clearing and look around me and see a view like this, and all that effort seems worth it, for a second. 🌳🌲 I know this looks like a photo I took somewhere very exotic, but it's actually one I took this summer on a tiny island off the coast of Skye in Scotland. To get there, you have to drive for hours through mountains and round lochs, take a huge soaring bridge over onto the Isle of Skye, drive around a few more mountains and then take a small ferry across the sea. The island has one road, a hotel, and a distillery, and it was beautifully picturesque. So picturesque, it seems a damn shame to keep all my photos confined to a hard drive 🤷 #skye #raasay #scotland #highlands #scottishhighlands #hiking #canonm3

When you pick 3 random colours and it just... Works 🤷 I've been practicing with alcohol markers and I'm absolutely no expert, but they're a lot of fun. I'm slowly getting the hang of blending with them - they're a lot more forgiving than I thought they'd be. Life is a lot like climbing a mountain, really, isn't it? 🏞️ There's plenty of times you think you're almost at the top, but then you'll go over a crest and realise there's still a long, long way to go. You can stay where you are, complain your legs hurt, and proclaim adamantly you can't go any further, but that won't make your journey any shorter, or the summit any nearer. Most people find it hard going it alone, and find solace in someone being beside you, telling you that you CAN do it - even as your trainers are stuck in a bog and you've slid back more steps than you've taken. Along the journey, you might find someone much younger than you progressing faster, or higher: but you'll do well to remember their climb has no bearing on yours, because everyone's pace is different. And at long last when you finally do reach the top - it might not be the top you expected after all. There might not be snow, or a flag, or it might not be the highest peak around.
