Weight Loss Diaries – Week 5 | Recipe fails and a foot injury

Find out more about this project and my weight loss goals here

Staying consistent, keeping at it. Despite a foot injury this week, I’ve done a good job sticking to my calorie deficit and haven’t yet skipped a day of my step goal either.

Anyway, let’s get into week five’s ups, downs, learnings and statistics…

On the menu

It was nice to delve into some classic meals this week – Spicy Sausage Rice, Spaghetti Bolognese, Chicken Stir Fry and Paella are all normal recipes we’ make’ve made for years, which are naturally high protein and can be made evne healthier with just a handful of tweaks. On Monday night we served our salmon with cauliflower and green beans, both roasted and topped with parmesan and garlic – yum. I also managed to murder my muffin tin this week, so no more muffin tin recipes until I get my hands on a new one!

New recipes

That, my friends, is a homemade Sausage McMuffin. Unfortunately it actually comes in at more calories than a ‘real’ one – but it’s undoubtedly down to the proper cheddar and heckin’ massive sausage patty (made from two sausages). At 544 calories it made a great weekend lunch treat though!

It doesn’t always go perfectly. We had a couple of recipe fails this week – this Sweet Potato and Chickpea Curry (to which I also added king prawns) was pretty good, but too spicy and ended up being a bit too high calorie to make on the regular. I also made Tzatziki from this recipe and it wasn’t very nice at all. We tried these stuffed Gnocchi from Morrisons and they were pretty weird and gross! On the plus side, we made a paella from this base recipe – adding chorizo, prawns, pepper and peas – which turned out to be surprisingly low calorie.

Out and about

Although I still managed to hit both my step goal and heart points each day, my walking was a bit hampered this week by an injury. I currently have an open welt on the back of my ankle that’s making it very difficult to wear shoes comfortably! I wear sturdy walking boots and socks on all my walks, which usually prevents this – this used to happen to me a lot (but not recently, thanks to the more consistent walking). It’s actually been getting me down quite a bit, since it makes it difficult to wear socks and shoes, and keeps re-opening when I go on walks, even when I wear a plaster over it. I’m going to rig up a plaster and bandage combination and see if that helps. If not, might have to switch to walking in my Birkenstocks until it’s healed, although this isn’t ideal in the unseasonable rain or cold weather!

‘Til next time,

Alli xx
